Now that the new lead paint rules have been in place for a little over a week, it seems like it's finally getting some attention from the consumer-oriented media.
The Chicago tribune had an article today on the new rules (even quoting the research we did at Professional Remodeler earlier this year). It's good to see the information finally getting out there, especially as remodelers have been trying to get the media to cover this for months.
Other outlets, including the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Baltimore Sun and Atlanta Journal-Constitution have covered it in recent days as well. Still, most remodelers I've talked to say that the average homeowners has no idea this is going on. Hopefully, some more media coverage will help to change that.

With less than 15,000 Certified Lead Firms out there nationwide it shouldn;t be surprising that the public is unaware of the Rule. The same could be said for the 95% of the needed compliant firms that have not bothered to send in their $300 to EPA and probably won't ever comply.
ReplyDeleteWhen the 78 million homeowners of pre 78 homes wake up, I hope the legislators get lots of "what the heck were you thinking" calls for allowing this obscure Rule to move forward. How can you take away my private ownership rights to choose any contractor and most importantly impose additional costs of ownership without my input at any time in the process? The homeowners were never a stakeholder in the development of this Rule. Unfortunately, they were not at the table and should have been.
